Been doing some wasting of time these past few days.. mendak seh!! nothing much done, well , not my fault, cant really move on tt much due to lack of consultation from teachers.. heee..... but progess is ongoing
and we have been playing pool a few times these week seh!!.. guilty.....
well, remembered some issues that pass me this week... both related though ...
firstly , theres a gig coming... and fifi alerted me about his poem that critisizes spores-board-of-censorship that had not been giving the green light for some bands in spore to perform ... due to explicit content, adultery, propaganda issues, and also violence that is present in either their lyrics or performance...
not only it affects local bands, but also production houses that produce movies that i would say, really bring forward critical issues that should have just been left uncensored....
Like in film appreaciation class.. we saw this local movie (15) about reality in singapore, for example real gangsters who were filmed.... and it also filmed real singaporeans in their daily lives, this means that everything that had been protrayed is real n is the truth, but the problem is, the movie has been cut so many times, that the main gist of the movie is unclear..... it aims to tell wat singapore really is, as it shows real people in real situations... nad the director was bright enuff to foresee cuts happenning that he purposely made scenes about wat the censorship boards had done to the industry.
So.. yup, it shows the bad side of singapore, but ... its the truth... we cant run away from it... that wat really is happening in spore...
bands in singapore arent given the freedom to express themselves through their lyrics and performance.... everything has to be censored.
Wat is left to convey to the audience is just those petty issues.... thats just pathetic.
what really bothers me is, singapore is soooo contradicting itself, saying that they want to promote a country for the arts and creativity , but look at wat it has done?... y invest in millions of dollars for the esplanade, the arts hub, when they cant even be lenient in letting arts express themselves, it is in a way, restricting the full potential of arts. therefore, arts in singapore lack individuality. Y let foreigners see that wooooahh singapore is artsy??.. just superficial galmour.. As many noe, ARTS IS FLEXIBLE AND UNLIMITED in nature, so by censoring, what is left to express?
how is singapore to grow in the areas of arts, when they arnt even given the chance to bring forward new ideas and to stand up for wats wrong. We are all aware that the media is a very powerful mean of influence. But, y compromise good influence? hmm, for example pornography, we cant stop people from buying them,, erm... in JB or even download it. Its all in a persons moral.. Y not educate them rather then let them be curious and explore for themselves and at last be badly influenced. And in the case of vulgarities, hey we have been using them since forever, done blame the media, its not like u ve just learnt using those magical words since yesterday.
so..yar... im tired of typing already... just hope that bands are given the space to express themselves... and hope that we get to see uncut versions of good films made locally and also overseas without having to get it illegally or watching them somewhere abroad, where censorship isnt as tight.
