summary of flesh n stone.

i read tt Flesh n Stone.. by Richard Sennett
but didnt finish it up
due to erm me.. not wanting myself to be seen by her as oweing her sumthing..gave it back to her
yeah.. its her book

i became a feminist by reading tt book.. its meant to be tt way.. for the first part of the book
it was about the Romans during the renaissance and his conception of the antique greek polis. How men were seen as perfect., they fleshed their naked, beautiful bodies with pride. women were not allowed to display themselves in public .why was this so... because.. they think that men are warm blooded. n women are cold. For example,.wat men and women discharge are different. the menstrual blood is cold.. n semen is warm..( do u ever get to noe tt?)
Being warm is higher in hierachy as compared to being cold. tts y guys can be seen as the ones that can take coldness by being exposed to the surroundings.. because they r warm. Cold women need to be coverd up.
Wen a mother gives birth to a girl, which is not really a good thing for them.. is was believed that the mum was not hot enuff. cold blood made the baby gerl. warm blood made a boy.
Warmth is the root of happiness to them. and also, semen gives a new life wherelse menstrual blood is just waste.
WOMEN = WEAK
MEN= STRONG
the rest i didnt read lah...
u ppl can figure it out for urselves.. but it is really interesting.. Richard Sennett also talk about, sex, gays,.. postmodernist, interaction between the human body and the spaces of the city it inhabits. And he asks whether modern cities starve people’s sensual experience.
thnks ANdrew for introducing tt for our first yr reads.
